08 Feb 08 Live Video Open Houses?

posted by Christian Sterner

Y! Live is now…well…LIVE! Here is one of those times where I wish we had taken in a massive amounts of funding so that we could execute our entire product road map in 30 days. Live open houses have been on Team WellcomeMat’s mind for a long time. We’re ok-I guess-with Yahoo! beating us to the creation of a forum where these events can take place, and wonder who is going to be the first real estate professional to use this new application.

Just the other day, Doug Heddings was talking about how he had 150 people show up to one of his open house events. With his marketing prowess in mind, I don’t doubt for one second that this is an honest count. I do wonder how many more “attendees” he would have had with Y! Live in action. Poor guy was just one week too early! If anyone tries this, please be sure to invite WellcomeMat! feedback [at] wellcomemat [dot] com

I’m curious how this might work. I’d love to hear from ANYONE with ANY ideas on how to implement this. It’s one thing to get viewers, another to convert them into paying customers.

I can see this playing well, though, into my idea of using my foreclosure vlog as a community activism platform too.

Bleck! I just don’t know how to get there!

P.S. I’m dying to know what WellcomeMat’s product roadmap is. As a former Product Marketing Mgr. for a Silicon Valley Co., I feel your pain. Keep up the great work!

Honestly man…I am just glad to see people constantly pushing the envelope. The tech space is a beautifully out of control thing.

As for our road map, you know the deal with that one. I just think that it’s a cool idea to do live open houses so long as you can gather turn out. Open a chat room, have someone manning the web, and handle in person inquiries at the same time? Very cool!

Don’t you think that vidio is a better format for reaching prospective clients than flyers. There are more and more looking to the web for information and needing it faster at that. We need to keep up and this is one way to do that. The information to get the job done is out there and Wellcome Mat is on the cusp of it.

You know, this is a very innovative turn your taking with a “live” openhouse, but I wonder, if i was sitting at my computer viewing this, what would I want to see?

I imagine that I would have the ability to view the property through video that was pre-shot and produced, but I would also want to speak to the realtor live in a forum type atmosphere where he / she could answer questions through chat / video about the property.

I think your on to something there.

Playing off of what Roell said…here’s an idea:

What would be valuable to the agent? Exposure right? What if a certain technically savvy agent who had video tours of ALL his/her listings had an open house for Sunday from 12-3pm. 15-20 video tours (or whatever) are available for buyers to watch. Through advertising, the agent can promote this event that way he/she gets X amount of visitors. He is available through means such as Y!live to answer questions, chat with buyers…etc…All live..all video…freekin cool, eh?!
