28 Jun 08 Are Slide Shows Video?

posted by Christian

Your significant other calls you to go see a movie. You duck out of the office a bit early, yank your tie off, hit happy hour and then dive into the theater early enough to insure a good seat. You’re psyched…you’ve been waiting for this movie to come out for months!

You take down your first couple fistfulls of popcorn…the anticipation builds and then BOOM! A slide show begins playing. Are you disappointed?

Duh. Video is obviously hot. The companies shilling these slideshow programs are MARKETING it as video, and most agents are clueless. They buy into it, and then ‘resell’ the video concept to their sellers, who also ‘think’ they’re doing video. I’m sure they’re more than thrilled when they see a slideshow of (usually bad) still photos.

And the kicker is they are usually the exact same photos the buyer has already seen on the MLS? What IS the point of this? Some people just don’t think this through.

Thing is…I don’t think there is any confusion about what a video is outside of the real estate space. And, in risk of sounding like a broken record, slide shows are great: just don’t call them videos because it makes one appear either a) ignorant OR b) dishonest.

Slide shows are not Video. Not even close. Video that pivots on a tripod is a slide slide. No real difference from panoramic stitches you can do with stills and software.
